Phyllis Linton Receives 5 Year NIH Grant
SKCC immunologist, Phyllis-Jean Linton was informed by the NIH that she will be funded for 5 years to study the changes that occur during the aging process which reduce the body's immune response against cancer. Dr. Linton will test for changes in the function of the dendritic cells which provide early warning signals to the immune response that the body is harboring foreign invaders, like cancer or infection. The discovery of any malfunction in these dendritic cells which Dr. Linton detects in the aged immune system can be the starting point for approaches to improve the body's defenses against cancer and infection.

The SKCC faculty will meet with members of the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board on March 4, 2007 in the new research center on SKCC's campus to update the committee on new programs and existing programs for cancer treatment and research. The day will culminate in a dinner at the Torrey Pines Hilton. This provides SKCC Faculty, Trustees, Foundation Board Members and Supporters of the Center a social hour and dinner with the members of the advisory board, which is composed of outstanding cancer therapists and cancer researchers. Six members of the board are members of the National Academy of Sciences.
