Marilyn and Owen O'Brien Donate $100,000.00 to the SKCC.
Long term supporters of SKCC's Golf for Life Tournament, Marilyn and Owen O'Brien attended the November 9, 2006 opening ceremony for SKCC's new research center. Soon after the event, they made known their intention to donate $100,000.00 to the SKCC. The Patio on the Southwest Face of the SKCC will be named in honor of their gift.

New Grant Awardee.
Ruth Gjerset was a awarded a new grant to study ways of using stem cells derived from a patient's bone marrow to carry viruses which have been engineered to destroy lung cancer cells. In this new strategy, the stem cell acts to deliver the therapeutic virus to the lung cancer cells and spare the normal cells from the effects of the virus. In view of the poor response of lung cancer to existing forms of therapy, the testing of novel approaches for lung cancer treatment is urgently needed.
