'Jeans for Genes' Benefit Gala Raises Funds for Sidney Kimmel Cancer
Center Spurred
by the excitement of horseracing at Del Mar, more than 275 guests at
the first-ever "Jeans for Genes" benefit gala Saturday, August 19
ponied up money to benefit cancer research at the Sidney Kimmel
Cancer Center.
Joined by honorary "Jeans for Genes"
chairperson Caroline Kimmel, attendees in black tie formal wear and
glitzy jeans enjoyed trackside cocktails and then cheered for their
favorite horse and jockey in the 9th race Sidney Kimmel Cup.
Philanthropist and clothing magnate Sidney Kimmel was also honorary
chairperson. The signature event included dinner and dancing.
"A year to the day following our 15th anniversary
celebration and groundbreaking ceremony at SKCC's La Jolla 10-acre
campus, which was presided over by Caroline and Sidney Kimmel,
Caroline Kimmel returned to participate in SKCC's Jeans for Genes
gala dinner at the Del Mar race track," said Dr. Albert Deisseroth,
president and CEO of the non-profit cancer center. "We admire both
Sidney and Caroline Kimmel for their generosity and commitment to
education, cancer research, the arts and social
justice."
