The
Founders' Vision Realized Over the
last three weeks, we have witnessed great progress in the building
of SKCC's new research center. There has been a massive and very
successful excavation of the basement and underground parking for
the new SKCC
Research
Center.
Approximately 1,500 cubic yards of earth were moved from the
construction site across the street to the adjacent lot. We expect
to see the completion of excavation before Friday of this week.
Next, the crews will take the heavy equipment back into the
basement level to begin digging trenches that will become the
foundation of the building. Placement of the concrete foundation
will be followed in February and March by the erection of the steel
superstructure of the
building. |

Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center presents Dinner with the Scientists on
February 27, 2006 to be held at the Hotel Del Coronado. This is the
first night of our SKCC Conference, Proteogenomics for Diagnosis,
Imaging and Therapy of Cancer. The Key Note Speaker is Dr.
Mary-Claire King, a world renowned Geneticist. She is an American
Cancer Society Research Professor of Genetics and Medicine at the
University of Washington. Dr. King was the first to prove that
breast cancer is inherited in some families. She discovered the gene
for familial breast cancer and she has been using the techniques
that enabled her to discover the gene for familial breast cancer to
work on projects for the United Nations and International tribunals
in Kosovo and South America for forensic genetics.
